Hello there, I am looking for legal advice in regards to an ongoing situation. As of this past Thursday, my ex boyfriend, my mother and my ex‘s best friend thought it was a grand idea to send sexually explicit videos of me to my friends and threatened to send them to my job. The videos that were recorded, I did not consent to and one of them I was heavily intoxicated, which is pretty clear on the video. In addition to circulating these images around after trying to go no contact with my ex for months, my mother decided to stay in contact with him share my whereabouts, and just completely rip me apart and drag my name through the mud. She insisted that he shared the videos in photos with him, and then instructed him to send them to people I know to “expose the real me“….. the day that this all happened after being no contact with my mother for about two months she ironically calls me and is gaslighting me like don’t feel bad you made a mistake, you thought you could trust someone you were in a relationship with, everything will be OK, you should confront him. So I proceeded to call my ex and ask why he was sending these images around to which he replied my mother was the one that instructed him to do so and basically orchestrated this whole thing. I asked for proof and he sent me a slew of screenshots and screen recordings of communication between my mother and him for the last 3 to 4 months. In these messages, there is admission from my ex telling my mother that he had his best friend share these messages with specific people to which my mother responds. “Good, that’s on her. Tell me how it goes.”… I also have proof from my friends of the messages they received from my ex‘s phone number and his best friend‘s phone number. I then had my friends share copies of these videos because they were things I had never even seen before unfortunately.

To make things tricky, I live in Florida. My mother and my ex live in Illinois and my ex‘s best friend to my best knowledge still lives in north carolina.

I’ve already filed the police report here in Florida, but I feel completely violated and need to know what my legal options are. I’ve only met with one lawyer and they work with a private firm so they were requesting a $5000 retainer and told me that the hourly rate is $425…..

Any advice or insight would truly be appreciated as I try and navigate this situation. Thanks in advance.
