Post Body

I live in California, car was stolen guy had a hydroplane at the end of 2021. Turns out my insurance wasn't on auto pay. For a paid off '18 Camry XSE with 38,000 miles on it. He was a friend of a friend, nice guy, said I can leave the car there until I saved enough to fix it. It's been a few a while. I heard from the guys ex-girlfriend the car is no longer on the property, no one told me anything about the car needing to be off the property. If I go check since I can't find the guy's number anymore and it's not there do I have legal recourse? I was planning on fixing it but it's tough to get ahead. He could've found someone who knows me, called me, or found me on social media to let me know it has to go. But in my head they just stole $40k from me if it's gone. What should I do?

Thanks in advance, I feel like an idiot, but I never had the money to fix it, but I could've sold as is or scraped it to get ahead. Can I get the value of the car I have proof it was left on the property and all my phone records showing he never ever ever tried to reach me to remove it.

Thanks!
