KSP showed up at my house on Monday to issue a Class A Misdemeanor for the cultivation of Marijuana (< 4 plants). We are honest, nice people. We are not noisy or bothersome or criminals. We live way out in the middle of nowhere, but helicopters with their specialized software spotted us.

No criminal record or any previous charges of any kind.

Court in September.

The matrix of possibilities seems very broad, from up to 12 months in jail to a $500 fine, and I’m assuming many realities in between like probation, drug court, community service, etc. I feel like jail time is unlikely, but what wisdom do you have to offer us, r/legaladvice ?

I have searched through the sub and it seems most people say - get a lawyer. Should we?
