I'm sorry upfront; I'm upset and writing in a stream of consciousness. I have had a non-written custody agreement with my daughter's mother for 14 years now. We shared custody for the most part from 2009 (the date of our daughter's birth) to 2016 when my daughter was dropped off on my doorstep. My daughter lived with me for a year and then we went back to shared custody. I moved to Illinois in 2020, and from 2021-2023, my daughter decided she wanted to live with me on a permanent basis, so she moved out to Illinois with me. She then tried living with her mother for her freshman year of high school and found it unbearable. My daughter has now chosen to finish her high school career here in Illinois. I told my daughter to let her mother know about this decision and now her mother is taking me to court in Massachusetts (where she currently resides). The lawyer she retained has expedited the hearing so that I have to appear in court this Friday, August 23rd at 8 a.m. I have no funds to get us both out there that quickly. I tried asking my baby's mother's lawyer for a joint agreement for a Zoom meeting, but I was rebuked. What are my options? What can I do? My daughter's mother is stating that I do not plan to let my daughter see her mother again, which couldn't be further from the truth. We had a plane ticket for my daughter to see her mother this weekend, and we were making arrangements for them to see each other in October. My only goal is to respect my daughter's wishes and let her finish high school in Illinois. I do not want sole custody or child support. Please help me figure this out.
