Hey everyone, I just turned 18 and I started working as a busser at a new restaurant that just opened in massachusetts. In the interview I was told i’d make $100 minimum in tips and then $6.75 as an hourly wage (same wage as what I made at the previous restaurant I worked at). I worked last Saturday for 7 hours and only received $40 in tips. Along with the $6.75 an hour, I only made $87.25 (before tax) which comes out to about $12.40 an hour. The state minimum in Massachusetts is $15 an hour. After asking my manager he told me he doesn’t know anything about a $100 minimum and that my wage would get better as the restaurant got more traffic. Does anyone have any advice on what can I do about this? Is this allowed?
