Referencing a recent road rage incident where some guy cut me off. I honked because of how close they were and they decided to brake check me and try to get me off the road. They pulled over, so I went around them. I went on my way and they decided to start following me. I decided to make some random turns and started doing circles and it was very clear they were following me. Ultimately ended up getting held up at a light to where they got out of their car and screamed "Get the f*ck out of the car, im gunna beat your ass". Thankfully, the light turned green the moment they got out of their car, so I took off.
The moment this happened, I called the cops as the chase ensued. Luckily, I found a cop station near by, so I had an officer wait for me outside as I made my way to the station. Pulled into the station, and this guy took off for obvious reasons. The whole chase was almost 20minutes.
In any case, I showed the cop the dashcam footage (where you can clearly see him driving in the bike lane, driving in on coming traffic and nearly causing an accident) and they literally told me they can't do anything because 1) they weren't there at the scene 2) my dashcam didn't pick up him screaming saying he'd beat me up. And because of this, they were unwilling to write up a report. This had made me lost trust in the police.
That makes me wonder, what can you legally do?
Feels like no matter what, cops won't do anything unless they're at the scene. Get dragged out of your car and get in a fight, you can get cited with assault.
