Police Officer drives onto sidewalk to chase street preacher

Post Body

A member of my church was preaching on the public sidewalk after our local police department was involved in a scandal where they beat an innocent man and had to pay a very large settlement. The police department clearly didn’t like his message and officers were insulting him the entire time he was there. Eventually one officer in a patrol car drove onto the sidewalk straight at my friend and his car ended up hitting the building. After hitting the building, the cop continued driving down the sidewalk chasing my friend coming within inches of hitting him until he was behind some stone planters and couldn’t drive any further. He left after that because he did not feel safe, but he ended up getting charged with disorderly conduct and loitering through a citation in the mail. Luckily I was nearby recording the whole thing and the judge threw out all charges at the preliminary hearing for lack of probable cause. My friend is pretty shaken up by the whole thing, what can he do and were his rights violated? We tried to file complains but the department refused to let us without us handing over the video files.
