Abandonment of property NY
Post Body

My parents had a tenant who stopped paying rent. He ended up moving into the basement & my parents, for various reasons, let him stay for years (a favor to a relative). Eventually the guy went to rehab. I boxed up his stuff & waited for him to reach out to retrieve it all.
This was over a year ago & he still hasn’t reached out. He was a highkey nightmare for a few reasons & the idea of tracking him down or doing anything to invite him back into our lives sounds worse than nails on a chalkboard.
Is there a statute of limitations on how long my parents have to hold it? Do they need to put an ad in the paper or anything?
