I was viciously attacked while cat sitting - the cat went into full attack mode seemingly out of nowhere with zero warning signs. The cat charged at me several times and even jumped up onto my back while I was standing up. I have the incident on video as it was recorded by their pet-cam. I had to go to the ER afterwards, I have scars on my forearm, back and chest and now I have ongoing PTSD symptoms. The hospital and subsequent trauma therapy were all paid for by my insurance. But recently I found proof the owners knew the cat had a biting problem beforehand - I found multiple instances online of jokes being made about how the cat is a "monster" and "craves violence". I thought they were lying to me when they said the cat had never shown signs of aggression before but finding the photographic evidence was unsettling to say the least... Do I have a case in small claims court? I do not want the cat euthanized but I would like some compensation for the psychological damage mainly because at this time, cat sitting is my main source of income. I did have to scale back my clientele after being attacked but since I don't have any medical bills to cover - is this worth pursuing? I'm in Oregon and everything I've read about animal attack law is pretty much all dog-centered so any advice is much appreciated.
