My mom is receiving debt collection calls

Post Body

So me, my mom, and my niece all received a call from this company claiming my mom owed a credit card from Spiegel over $4000 from years ago. My mom never had this card. They sent us a debt verification letter but I don’t think it’s real. I can’t find this anywhere on her credit report. The company also said she needs to be available to sign and verify legal documents. Is this a scam? The dude I talked to said they can only provide the itemized debt in court and will not provide it unless she disputes it in court. They did put her full social security number on the verification letter but still, she never had this card. Never order a single thing from this company. It’s not on her report. They also closed in 2019 and they’re just now trying to collect this debt. Do we just not engage? Do we wait to see if they really file a lawsuit against her?

Edit —— It’s in Oklahoma.

They’re saying she had a card for Spiegel and Spiegel closed in 2019. The debt letter says the original amount was $4000 and they’ll settle for $1500. My mother knows who Spiegel is because she’s old but she said she never order a thing from them in her life.

The guy on the phone told me he couldn’t give me any more of an itemized list of anything until the court date and we could only dispute any debt in court.

When I Google anything about this collection agency which is Adler and Associates phone number is 866-301-2145 they told me they don’t have a public domain and that’s why they don’t come up and they didn’t have to have a public domain which I get.
