I work in a factory and have been there past the ānew hireā period. Iāve recently racked up to 5 attendance points due to appointments and school meetings for my special needs child. Iād like to also note we have a no fault attendance policy and we are permitted to get up to 7 points before termination. We are also not in a union, so I do not get any representation when disciplinary actions are made.
I had been put in a more desirable, easy going, and higher pay position back in June of the current year. This position typically on works 39-44 hours a week and my previous position works 44-50 hours a week. After I came back from my last point that I accrued, I got called into the office by my supervisor and plant manager and got told that I have to go back to my previous, more strenuous position and that my pay was getting cut. I was told if I didnāt comply, then I would be let go. They also stated that I was wasting the companyās money by not showing up. I do not get paid for the time Iām scheduled when I am not there.
On the last day that I had missed, management fired 1 of the 3 people in my 1st position that I had in the company. My situation is the first that many of my other coworkers have heard of. My plant manager tend to play favorites. For example, in the higher paying position that I had, one of my coworkerās boyfriend died after driving under the influence and she was gone for WEEKS. Grievance at my workplace for a spouse is 7 days. After she returned she would miss whole days and half days without being called into the office. She is also in her 3 month new hire period. I believe this is because she is buddy-buddy with the plant managerās daughter.
