Is it legal for a company to lock customers with the 3 year auto renewal contract without sending any notification to customers?
Post Body

I just learned that around February of 2018, I signed a garbage pickup contract that had a auto renew clause every 3 years. Three years is a very long time. Today when I tried to switch the company. The garbage company told me that I'm locked in with them until end of February 2027 (because it was auto renewed twice in Feb 2021 and Feb 2024). Wow! I did some googling and found that Illinois has ACR, Automatic Contract Renewal, act. I'm a layman but one part reads that "For contracts with a longer term, the Act also requires companies to send a notice of automatic renewal well in advance of the renewal date so the consumer has time to cancel before the renewal." The garbage company never sent me any notices in 2021 nor 2024. Could I use this to get out of their 3 year auto renew contract? They are charging way higher than other companies.

If this is not a good way to do it, please advise a better way to do it. Thank you for your time.
