Paycheck wont cash

I live in West Virginia , payday was friday. Was on vacation and was suppose to get Direct Deposit , but boss informed me we are getting paper checks. However he didnt tell menthis till Monday. Tried to cash said check at the owners bank where the check was cut. Was told there wasnt enough money in the account to cash it. Not sure how to proceed?
