I recently purchased a condo in Brooklyn, New York, and received a notice stating that a marshal has been instructed to seize the gas meter. The notice is addressed to the prior owner. I called the utility company to open a new account, thinking I had already done this when I set up utilities after closing.
Now, I have an outstanding question: Since I have created an account and scheduled the utility company to come and turn on the meter, does this constitute an application to use the meter and will it stop the seizure?
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
