I would think the answer is yes it’s illegal, but to what degree?
Basically a friend and I had placed a fast food bag on the hood of a neighbors car because we thought it looked funny.
Looks like the neighbor called the cops and wrote down vehicle info etc. and probably has video of it (happened at night no one around so we’re assuming so because she knew it was us, stared at us from her car and wrote down info as we watched)
I’m not worried honestly because this seems like such a small thing, we’re obviously not criminals, this is littering and probably something like messing with car, but all we did was place the bag, laughed and then left for the night.
Of course we still should have left her car alone and not done it, but is it really that serious? To me it seems very small and like an overreaction, but legally I’m sure she can do something if she’s that mad about it. I just feel like they’ll give us a warning and say don’t do that, maybe give us a fine idk.
I’m honestly thinking about calling the police station in that city and asking if there’s any issues (I’m not even in the city this happened in, was visiting buddy) because we’re pretty positive she had called and they didn’t see us as we were just sitting in car as she stared. We saw a cop drive past earlier and thought nothing of it because we didn’t think anything we had done was bad enough for that anyway until she started staring. That’s what made us think.
I just don’t wanna worry about something like this later on, I’d rather be like hey uh what’s happening instead of dealing with it later if that makes sense. I don’t think it’s big enough deal to do that though. I just think it’s so small and cops involved is a little ridiculous, which is why I’m wanting to call and ask. Because I know realistically this is a waste of cops time.
Thoughts please? Am I under reacting?
