Post Body

A former friend is in jail/prison and not getting out. I am trying to help his family keep the house. He has a lot of debt: $61k in HELOC, PLOC; and probably ~$30k or more in credit cards. Mortgage balance is $104k, payments $850, overdue balance of $4500, value is over $200k.

Would this qualify for a homestead exemption, with his family but not him living there? Two kids, 2-3 grandkids, ex-wife (mother of kids). Obviously he doesn't have income but his kids would be able to make the regular mortgage payments, but not the past-due part (right now, anyway)
