Hi all. Just curious what my best course of action is here.
I joined a discord community for painting Warhammer miniatures and the organizer began hosting weekly raffle contest for professionally painted miniatures as well as sealed, brand new in box product.
The issue is, I think theyve gotten in far over their head and is unable to actually make good on giving out prizes.
The organizer says they have a variety of medical issues that prevent them from working a real job, so they had hoped these contests would increase business for their painting commissions. It really didn't, but that's neither here nor there.
The problem is, they have now gone onto the discord and said that they have no money, will be evicted soon, and really don't have any idea what they're gonna do next. While I sympathize, I don't think this absolves them of the responsibility of the prizes of contests people paid actual money to enter.
They have said they don't even have the vast majority of won prizes and only a handful of prizes have been painted. They are unable to purchase most of what people have won.
I just don't know what to do. The cost of product I have won likely amounts to almost $1000, and if we include the painting that should be done on some of them, it is probably more. I don't want to just forget about this. I am also not the only one. There are many people on the discord awaiting prizes.
My frustration has recently increased because the organizer has begun advertising that they have partnered with a new online contest site and is once again selling professionally painted miniatures. I think this is wildly inappropriate considering they still have so many prizes they haven't given to people. I understand they want to try and do this as a way to make their income, but something's gotta give.
What I my recourse here? Do I have any? I should also mention I am in the United States but the contest organizer is from the UK.
