So two days ago, at about 1 am, I get a Facebook call from my sister. We rarely talk if ever, so I figured this must be important. It rang a few times, then hung up, so I figured she accidentally called.
But then she starts sending me a bunch of rapid-fire messages. All of them begging for the address on my license. Please please please hurry hurry hurry, is all she would say. She wouldn't explain what was going on, why she needed my license, or anything. After that she just said, "I'll explain everything if I don't go to jail." It seemed like an emergency, and I felt like I was under a lot of pressure, so I gave the address to her. She wouldnt answer my questions other than that. Mind you I have all of this on record, because you can read the entire conversation on my Facebook Messenger app.
I still had questions, obviously, so we kept talking. Long story short, she was driving a friend's car, and the police scanned her tag. It came up as having a lapse in insurance, a lapse in registration, and she was driving without a license. She has warrants out and is on probation, and wanted to avoid jail and possibly prison. So she used my information to make the police think she's me. I think the car owner drove the needed documents to her? Anyway she probably thought to use me because I have a squeaky clean record. Well, HAD.
Needless to say, I was panicking. My sister spent probably an hour reassuring me, swearing up and down that nothing was gonna happen to me because she promised to pay the tickets.
To support this, she gave me the name of some guy she's living with who claims to be a law enforcement marshal. But I found an official list of Georgia marshals, current, retired, and deceased, and I checked that list 3 times. Even did Find > Search, and got no results. I contacted him myself, and he seemed to be using a lot of "official"-sounding language just to seem convincing. He told me the same thing my sister said....but why would an officer of the law condone illegal activity?
Anyway, I told my sister multiple times that I could NEVER, EVER do this again, and that I needed updates about this, since she promised to pay the tickets on time.
I just don't like this at all and it doesn't sit right. Wouldn't someone somewhere easily be able to look up information and just see that things don't match up? What's going to happen to me?? What do I do?
Anyway, I sent my sister another message tonight asking for updates, a copy of the tickets, and other bits of information. I got no response. I'm giving her 24 hours, and if she doesn't respond, I'm contacting this so-called marshal friend of hers. If he doesnโt respond after 24 hours, I plan on going to the police, and I will tell them both about this new plan.
P.S., I tried to look up the citation information online, and it's not in the system yet. It takes up to 5 days.
Help.....tactfully please. I can't afford more complications in my life.
TIA.
