Out of State Tickets (failure to exercise due care)
Post Body

We were on a family trip in 2 cars! One of the cars was a rental where I was the primary driver on the application, but I had added another drive who happened to be a tourist for a couple weeks in the US. Both of us got a ticket for “failure to exercise due care to avoid collision with emergency vehicle”.

New York: State issued citation in Virginia: State Licensed at

In the tickets, we have two options: Plead guilty or not guilty.

The problem with one of the tickets, it’s under the name of the tourist and he is not here anymore and the rental car has been already given back.

What options do we have and what consequences? Will any demerit points be added to my license?

I need to respond by May 6th, but what do I do for the ticket that the tourist got?
