2 weeks ago he slapped me 5-6 times to the floor and left me with a black and blue eye. This wasn't new behavior but it definitely just felt like it intensified to a degree and that he clearly thought it was ok. I even have video of him (which I watch when I catch myself missing him) telling me that he slapped me because im a dumb bitch who deserves it. I pressed charges that same morning. They charged him with simple assault. I got a notice in the mail yesterday that his virtual court hearing is next week and that they needed my email. I wasn't planning on going because even though it's video, I just don't want to see him. But when I called today they recommended I do show up. So I will. But I'm so nervous and have no idea what to expect. It isn't a trial or superior court so will I be getting questioned by his lawyer or do i just speak to the judge and prosecutor? That makes me very nervous to think about being questioned by his lawyer. I have some mental health issues, anxiety being a main one and I'm scared of what his lawyer might say to me like you see in tv shows, pointing out my mental health and things like that. He could get up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. I'm in NJ by the way. I don't necessarily want him to get jail time but I don't want him to just walk away as if it's ok what he did to me, and on multiple occasions. I'm sorry I am rambling now. Just confused/concerned on what to expect. Any comments are appreciated.
