Hi! in 2015, I sued a former roommate in LA who wouldn't return my security deposit and won the judgment ($1790), but I couldn't really collect it or work on it in person since I moved to Seattle. Also, since I moved out, I didn't know if she moved or got a different job or what. She was a model and server at a restaurant, and I wasn't sure if that meant she had a steady employer, etc.
I've been trying to find info online over the years on what to do and finally was in LA a few years back and went to the courthouse to file some documents and get it all sorted, but the clerk advised me to make sure I knew the current contact info for the person who owed me. The problem is I didn't know her banking info, I didn't know where she worked or lived, etc. and I my trip ended too quickly for me to really followup locally.
So now, it's 2024, and 10 years is almost up. I suppose the amount owed is now about double if the interest is 10% per annum, but I honestly still have no idea how to collect this or whether I should hire a PI or sell it to a collections agency or what. I'm afraid it's too little of a judgment to be worth anyone else's time but mine, and honestly it may be too little of a judgment to be worth my time. If a PI or some other agent could do the legwork for me, I'd love to know how to find them. If a collections agency would be willing to buy the judgment off me, again, I'd love to know how to find them.
[Edit to add: it's not that my time isn't worth the money, but my experience with her was traumatizing and toxic, and dealing with it is somewhat of an emotional turmoil for me...]
thanks!
