Looking for legal advice on an ongoing issue I've been having.
In April 2023 my truck was stolen from my apt and removed within the month. Upon recovery the vehicle was hesitant to start, exhaust was cut and vehicle was spitting steam out the radiator. I being naive person figured insurance would cover me since I pay for full coverage.
Insurance took the vehicle to their recommended shop for a inspection. And before the inspection took place, they had it towed to our local CoPart to be totaled out. Me being confused when I got email saying they're totaling the vehicle, called and uncovered they(the insurance) made a mistake. So instead they had me choose a shop to send it to for an inspection.
Using their list of known shops that they've worked with, I choose one that was a few blocks from my home. The intake was simple, I signed paperwork as per usual. Unknowingly/naively did I not know, this shop was prepped to rip me off.
The shop sublet the inspection to another shop to inspect the vehicle. Which they found a leaking hose, and replaced it. Without consent from me or my insurance. Then they didn't confirm if there was any damage to the motor or any other components. A very shotty inspection at best. The charges was about 550 for the inspection, hose (which the estimate says Pully) and tow.
Fast forward after months of back and forth. Insurance said without a proper inspection they will not cover my vehicle. Upon which time, I was informed that because the vehicle has been at the lot, they were gonna charge me backed storage fees. Amounting over 7k dollars, when asked if I could work something out, I was informed that the owner is the only person I can deal with.
It's now this current date and I finally got ahold of the owner of the shop this last week. He said he will look into it and get back to me. Same day he called and said that they have $1600 already invested in the truck and he will cut me a deal. He said if I bring $3k cash, he will waive all the other fees.
Idk what to do as I feel like I've been cheated and wronged. The DA office dropped all charges against the man who stole my truck, insurance refused to help me, and now a local buisness owner is acting out of bad faith with me.
Is there anything I can do? I live in Alaska and I cannot seem to find much help in resources here.
Thank you for reading, Bless you all. 🙏
