I am planning on getting my legal name changed to match my gender identity soon. I have found that this process starts at the state level but that once it is fully done and my social security card and birth certificate are updated it applies in any state. There is something that seems to contradict that however. One of the listed requirements says that I must "plan to live in Nevada for the foreseeable future."
My question is does this mean that I would be obligated to live in Nevada for the rest of my life? If that is not what that means what DOES it mean? Does it just mean that I don't have any current plans to move out of state? Does it mean there is some minimum amount of time I have to wait before I would be allowed to leave the state? I don't currently have the means to move at all, let alone out of state, but I don't think I'm ok with being forced to live in Nevada forever. I may not have plans or ability to do that now but I don't know if that might end up being something I would want to or be able to do some day. I'm only 30. I don't want to end up in legal trouble just because I changed my name in Nevada and decided I wanted to live out the end of my life somewhere else or got some amazing job opportunity they requires me to leave Nevada a decade from now. Ok the same token I don't want to be cut off from any possible unforseen opportunities that may come my way in the future that would require me to leave the state.
