Contractor asking for payment after 2 years

Post Body

I had some work done at my home in California in 2021 May. I made full payments at the time the work was done.

The contractor has now reached out saying that full payments was not made. Unfortunately I did not save receipts. Isn't there a statute of limitation or something? Or without receipts, I am on the hook even if I made payments?

I understand I can work with my bank etc to figure out what payments I made. But I have a few accounts so I will have to go on a big fishing expedition. What other recourse do I have?
