I have been diagnosed with ADHD since I was 15 (now 41). It was fine in the past as if I got fired or let go due to the symptoms I would just find another Job. I've also been working since 16. From the time I was 16 until now, I've never been able to keep a job past a year. The year mark is about when the employer gets sick of dealing with my ADHD symptoms (attention to detail, remembering things, staying on task etc..).
In the past 5 years my ADHD has gotten increasingly worse. I've been back to the doctor and I'm on the max amount of medications I can take for it. Tried different prescriptions none of which helped.
I am worried getting older will eventually result in being fired, then not being able to land a job due to age. So I decided I would look into SSDI or SSI as my brother with ADHD got disability and was approved after 2 years. The problem is I'm single, his wife makes good money so he didn't have to while waiting for disability.
I guess my question is, is there really no chance to get it if I'm working during the process? There's no way I can't be unemployed for 1 - 2 years. Like I mentioned, it's not a matter of IF but WHEN I get fired for it again. Do they not look at work history and see there's a problem? I just don't know how anyone can qualify if they are single and need money. There's other factors too, like, my eyesight is horrible on the brink of not being able to drive. Back issues too. Just don't know if it's worth trying or not.
