My son’s father passed away, while he was alive he took out a life insurance policy with his new employer and made him (a minor; 7 years old) the main and only beneficiary. I spoke to Legalshield and they told me I had to pay for a minimum of 10 hours to file for guardianship of my son. I spoke to the insurance company and they need documentation that I am the guardian of our son in order to have access to the policy money. My question is, is the 10 hour estimation accurate? And am I able to just file the proper paperwork myself and not go through Legalshield? I’m in Florida. If I didn’t give enough information without extreme detail I can answer those questions! Thank you for any help and/or advice!
