Alright, so here's my situation.
For a little more than 10 years now my husband and I have been renting a house from our very best friends. We were in a bad place financially and they were generous letting us move into the home for just the price of their mortgage payments. There was never official paperwork or anything like that. They have never raised the rent, I raised it myself in thanks for their generosity and even then they are completely fine with half of what other people pay for much smaller, worse places in my area.
My friend (landlord) is now approaching paying off the mortgage on this house. They have offered to transfer the deed to us for us to get a mortgage to pay off my husbands' painfully high student loan balances.
They want to know the easiest way to do so, preferably without involving lawyers and adding extra BS on top of it.
They asked me to do the research into it and let them know what I find so we can make a plan together, this is my first stop. Please, any advice or information you can provide would be immensley helpful. I quite literally owe this person my life for their generosity.
If there's any other information you need, let me know. I have no clue how any of this works, honestly.
