Landlord said he’s not evicting me but sending me to collections if I don’t pay by end of month. What does this even mean?

I was supposed to pay rent on January 1st but was unable to. I told him I would apply for rental assistance but obviously it’s a long process to get assistance and I’m still waiting on the assistance. Landlord texted me saying he was no longer going forward with an eviction but will be sending me to collections by the end of this month? What does this even mean? Would I be kicked out?
