I'm not a lawyer but I've been thinking about this situation a lot over the last few days. During the middle of a the Rams/49ers game this week, a fan decided to run across the field for some reason. This happens in sporting events with some regularity, and usually they are subdued by the event staff pretty quickly, and ejected/banned from the premises and possibly spend the night in jail. However, in this instance one of the players of the Rams (Bobby Wagner) decided to intervene by running and causing a helmet/head collision which obviously drops the streaker immediately since Bobby is an NFL football star, and the streaker is much smaller than him.
There's more details and a video in the link I posted.
There are many people in r/NFL praising Wagner for stopping this person but it doesn't sit right with me. Even if you are disturbing a game like this - you should be punished by the law/staff. Serious head trauma could happen in this instance, and if Wagner hadn't done anything the person would have been subdued seconds later and ejected. The fan is apparently seeking some sort of legal repercussions. I am interested to hear other people's opinion on whether or not there is a case against Wagner, or any other worthy discussion about this general topic from other sports or other incidents similar to this. Thanks in advance.
