Please, someone help me. Here's the situation.
This is in California. Divorced was finalized last december with a non-modifiable spousal support agreement. Is there any way I can get out of that now that I'm unemployed? she's now countering saying I should still pay it AND to pay her lawyer fees. they offered that if I cancel the court date, then I won't owe the court fees. What should I do?!
EDIT: Now that I got it posted, I'll add some backstory. I was fine paying the spousal support and I didn't complain once and was never late. In my opinion, she didn't even need it. at the time of the divorce, she was making decent money, living rent/utilities-free in a guest house behind her brothers house. bought a brand new car, was living it up. meanwhile, I was living in our old condo that we shared, trying to pay the mortgage and bills by myself as well as the car that I had bought for her which, after abusively driving it for years, left it for me along with the ridiculous payment because our credit was so bad at the time. granted, I did make a little bit more than her, but it was mostly going towards paying off all of the bills of her careless spending during our marriage. Apparently, it's all your fault and you gotta be rich if you're going to be the petitioner...it sucks.
