In October 2021, a guy used my identity to open credit cards and bought a 2017 Porsche Macan through VROOM financed through Ally Bank. It was even delivered to my house when I was away on business. The thief presented my documentation with my photo to accept this 70 sports SUV.
Once I realized this happened I immediately called ALLY Bank to report this fraud only to be told they could not communicate with me as I was not the person who agreed to this car. They also would not give me any details. It took months and hundreds of things later but we found the perpetrator, he was arrested and pleaded guilty-
But everything is still on my credit including the Porsche. Ally now wants me to produce documentation that I didn't buy this car and police reports.
This has been a nightmare for 2 years that could have been stopped had someone checked to see my ID next to this guy and flagged it for fraud or at the very least worked with VROOM to have this removed-
Do I have the right to sue?
