Around 2 months ago I stumbled on a picket line on the drive home. I pulled over and talked to the workers for around half an hour, got a sense of their grievances and what they were looking to achieve.
I donated some money to their strike fund and exchanged numbers with one of the leaders of the strike, and messaged for updates once or twice since.
In the end, the company decided to shut down their distribution center instead of yielding to the strike (it would've been the first union branch for the company, setting a precedent the leader was well aware of, he wasn't surprised by the outcome.)
On the picket line I asked how I could help them out, and was pointed to a web page where I could send an email asking the firm to go back to the negotiating table. During and after I had a feeling of, "what next?" in terms of my own actions.
In an environment where there is a large militant labour movement, I can imagine the answer would be to link them up with other workers, especially ones in the same industry or under the same firm.
But when the movement is infantile, or essentially non-existent in an area, what would be the party's next move?
