Great resources on shading

Post Body
I feel my shading is inadequate. Not only in knowing how to put down the appropriate amount of tone regardless of method but where to begin and end a certain amount of tone to have a convincing amount of dimensionality. Does anyone have a good book or video to recommend on this vast subject as I cannot find one that quite works for me. I do get obsessed with precision and boundaries if that helps to explain my problem.
