Trying to draw anime characters. What should I be drawing?

Post Body

Been drawing on and off for about a year and haven’t drawn in a while, so for the sake of it let’s just say I’m starting fresh. I’m trying to learn how to draw characters in an anime style, that is my goal. However I have no idea what I should be drawing. I know about gesture drawings and anatomy and all that, but I have no idea what I should actually be doing. Like should I be practicing boxes first, 1 minute gesture drawings, just trying to copy a reference? I just never know what to put on a blank canvas or where to start. Any advice on what I should be doing?
