PySerial passthrough data example?

I'm brand new at this, so please be gentle!
I need to set up a script on a computer that receives data from bluetooth via pyserial, and passes it on to a program, then passes the output of the program back through bluetooth (again via pyserial).
Trouble is, I have no idea where to start.
Can some brilliant and kind soul please give me a coherent example of how I can do this?
