How are graphing calculators like Desmos made?

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I figured I’d try. I’m a current Math and Computer Science major in college. I’d like to create a website with a functioning graphing calculator (just for fun), but I have no idea how to do that. I have tried finding things on google and YouTube but none have helped. The most I’ve learned is that Desmos was created with JavaScript, so I’ve started learning that language. Does anyone have any resources that might be able to help me out? Thank you.
