Importing a JAR to Intellij

Hello! I am in an AP CS class and we have just began a case study where we needed to import a JAR file to use with our source code. At school it took a little while but my classmates and I got it working for everyone at school.
I am trying to do this on my own at home and I have done what I recalled as the exact steps, plus have googled for around an hour and I still continue to compile with an error, "System Java Compiler was not found in classpath:"
So, can anyone with Intellij experience walk me through importing my JAR file and how to properly import a project that uses that JAR. Thank you much!
