I play and host D&D with some friends online and plan to get more into it. I've messed with some basic python programming and have worked on small projects like creating a functioning discord bot. For a while now I've considered a project to work on in my free time, that being essentially my own TTRPG emulator, think something like Owlbear Rodeo or Roll20. I'm not quite sure, though, how to start. Should I use a game engine like Godot or Unity? I would ideally like it to have connective functionality where other players can join and interact. I'm unsure what the first steps would be here, and I'd love some help or feedback on how I would get this done. I'm not averse to using a different programming language than python, either.
