Subtracting more than two large numbers
How do I subtract more than two large numbers when wanting a negative difference. I can easily subtract three numbers when I know for sure the difference will be positive. But when trying to subtract three numbers that will ultimately give me a negative difference. I always get the wrong answer.
For example: 862-135-264 = 463
How ever when trying to do 135-862-264
The answer that I got was -609
because I borrowed from the 3 to make the 5 into 15 which made the 3 into a 2.
I then subtracted 6 from 15 which gave me 9
I then borrowed from the 1 to make the 2 into 12
I subtracted 12 from 12 which gave me 0
And then did 8-2 which gave me 6
That lead me to -609 but this is incorrect
the right answer would be -991
What am i doing wrong and how can subtract three large numbers when the answer is going to be negative?
