Okay, so what's the deal with relative clauses?
Post Body

No, this isn't me having trouble with the T-K stuff. I've got that on lock. This is something else.

I've been reading me some original works in Esperanto lately. First easy readers like Gerda, Ili kaptis Elzan, Karlo, La Sentimulo, and so on; now I'm moving on to slightly harder stuff like Fajron sentas mi interne. And there's a common writing convention I've noticed among all of them, and indeed among all learning materials I've used as well: anything even remotely resembling a subordinating clause is set off from the main clause with commas.

This looks a little weird to my English-native eyes, but hey, it's a different language. Maybe things just work differently here. But when it comes to relative clauses, suddenly the difference between restrictive and non-restrictive relative clauses becomes ambiguous. As far as I can tell, Esperanto doesn't differentiate between them. Do you just have to rely on context?
