What gouache brand is good for black paper?

I bought a black page sketchbook a while back and wanted to paint on it with gouache. When I did I was pretty disappointed because the colors didn't show. I tried adding white but I simply did not like the pastel colors that were coming out. The gouache I used was cheap which I think is the problem. I'm looking for some gouache that will give me good coverage but not too expensive. Less then $50 for some colors.
