Hi guys,
I’m new to Arabic and just working through the general phonology and pronunciation topic right now.
I generally understand the following (I hope): 1) full form - used during a sentence when pausal is not used
2) formal pausal form - at the end of a sentence (or natural pause), final short vowel not pronounced
My question is this, assuming my understanding is correct: Example: The Queen’s University… جَامِعة المَلِكَةِ I would read it like - jāmiعat al-malikati
I understand that “jaamiعa must take the tā’ marbuTa full form pronunciation due to the iDaafa, but I don’t understand how I should pronounce “malika” here. One the one hand, even though it takes a genitive ending, I would be inclined to omit the final short /i/ sound, and the /t/ (due to pausal rules) but I am a bit confused, as the case inflection would be lost.
If this made sense, would someone be able to help me out?
Thanks in advance!
