Basically I got bored and read an undergraduate psychology textbook, the section that stood out was the one on language acquisition.
The gist of it was that even though kids may have an edge, adults are still more than capable of reaching fluency in another language, they argued that kids pick up their first language so quickly because they are literally exposed to it non-stop from the moment they can hear from inside the womb all the way until they are fluent.
So what did I do?
~3 weeks ago (inspired by what I read) I started learning Arabic again, usual routine, 1-2 lessons a week and a bit of side-study but with one twist this time; I was going to try my best to emulate language immersion by listening to various types of music in Arabic whenever I was awake. Basically have listened to it all day at work and all night at home for the last 3 weeks continuously.
Let me tell you, I have never seen so much progress with my language learning within such a short space of time. My first lesson I was really struggling and mostly spoke in English. Come the lesson just passed and my teacher was gobsmacked with the progress, I was actually able to converse with her, albeit I stumbled a few times and had to get her to repeat a few things but it was like night and day. I've never been able to do that, not in all the years I've been learning.
