There is a lot of benefits to having a third place match: 1- fans will have a match to watch in the time between the semis and finals (usually a week) 2- strong teams who didn’t make it to the final will have a chance to win something while not the trophy winning a bronze medal is still a big achievement and would be something a lot of teams especially underdogs would love to play for 3- banger series between two of the top four teams in the world 4- if two of the best teams in the championship play each other for the semi finals winning third would mean a lot to the losing team.
