I don't want voice comms to be added
Post Body

I'm seeing more comments here and from streamers complaining about preseason and how Riot is just avoiding adding voice comms again by adding more ping options or dragon voting. Coming from Overwatch, I would not be excited about voice comms being added. I will explain a few reasons why.

  1. LoL is already infamous for being one of the most toxic gaming communities ever. You really want these people to assault your ears as well as your eyes? OW wasn't nearly as toxic but it felt more tilting than LoL when you had people screaming, playing music, etc in voice chat. Obligatory "jUsT mUte ThEm" comment coming in. Reason 4 will cover this.

  2. Higher elo winners become dictated by who has more people in voice comms on their team. Once I climbed higher in OW I noticed that games where no one was in comms were much harder than those where everyone was. This applies to the enemy team as well though. So it's another layer of RNG to winning (something that this community also bitches about but I agree with).

  3. Part of the appeal of LoL is that it has low tech requirements. Forcing players to use comms when they can't afford it isn't fair and could shrink the player population.

  4. Muting players has the same RNG effect as someone just simply not opting in. The enemy team may not have to mute anyone or less people and wins due to having the less toxic teammates. I know this already happens in text chat and pings. But voice comms is so much stronger and will have way more impact when it happens.

  5. This one is admittedly more about me and my preference. I don't want to talk to you guys. I just want to sit there in silence. I have to talk most of the time at work and it's last thing I want to do at home. I just want to play my favorite video game without feeling like I'm throwing because I'm not sweating my ass off in voice comms.

I'd be happy to be wrong and I'm open to hearing why I might be but I needed to get that out there. I don't think voice comms would actually make the game better.
