Why Clash Will Not Succeed
Post Body

Hey everyone, my name is Swile and I pretty much only play league of legends.

As many of you know, Clash is coming this weekend, and to those of you participating I wish you the best of luck in your matches. I wanted to make this post in hopes that someone from Riot might see this, or maybe just to create discussion within the community around the topic.

This weekend, Clash is Scheduled to take place at ~8:30 pm Friday night. I understand where riot is coming from, having to schedule the times for Clash. On one hand, Riot needs to be able to balance the load of players all trying to play clash, as well as trying to optimize the number of players that can play. (At least this is the two main things I am thinking about in terms of this discussion.)

When it comes to the player load, I am sure that the teams at Riot have been working tirelessly to fix the amount of issues clash had last time, which, seemingly came from the load of players. However, what doesn't make sense to me, is why schedule the time for one specific time, as that could lead to bottle neck issues as too many people are trying to contact the server. Though, I am no expert so please don't take my word as law.

In terms of attracting player base, league has a pretty good system in place, and I am sure many players are already getting their teams together, or are already in place ready for the clash games to begin. However, again with scheduling one time, I question why Riot came to this conclusion, as it limits many players ability to participate in Clash.

In terms of possible solutions, my friends and I were discussing two main solutions. One of my friends quickly offered to just fix Flex, and make the gamemode into a pseudo clash. However, I believe this misses the point of the gamemode, which is to allow regular players like myself get to experience the competitive league environment with a team of friends. Making Flex into a form of pseudo clash makes the gamemode too available, and therefor, too casual. Sure, some people are going to play casually no matter what, but that is just the biproduct of Riot releasing a new gamemode. Instead, I think a simple solution should be put into place. On the clash tab where is tells you the time of Lock in Phase, maybe we should be able to click on it, and choose between different set times. (Maybe one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening?) This would fix scheduling issues with many players, as it would allow them to work clash into their schedule instead of making their schedule work around Clash. This also leads to possible solutions of bottle necking. As if there are three set times, this reduces the possible players numbers per a single time set, and could reduce the load on the servers so that everyone's clash games can run as seamlessly as possible.

If you have any other ideas for solutions, or think that I am missing any big issues please let me know!

TL;DR Clash being set at one time sets the gamemode up for failure and Riot could fix this with some simple QoL changes.
