LP loss even if you reconnect punishes players who have genuine tech issues.
Post Body

Virgin Media in the UK just had a DNS outage which took me and an opponent out of the game for around 5 minutes, effectively making the game a 4v4.

I was trying to resolve the issue that whole time, switching to different DNS IPs from memory, and my opponent probably did something similar. We both reconnect and complete the game, with my team eventually winning. However, I still lost a full match worth of LP, and my opponent would have too if they'd lost.

I get that this is meant to discourage people from disconnecting at all but I honestly don't think it achieves even that: when people leave, it's because they've already accepted the loss. There are already other deterrents in place for frequent leavers, why does there need to be an aggressive and immediate retribution as well?

If it's absolutely necessary:

  • Enable a "win prevention" that prevents you from gaining LP if you don't reconnect.
  • Activate an "abandonment" punishment that deducts an amount of LP on top of the normal win/loss depending on how long you left the game for.
  • Allow a "grace disconnect" that gives players a chance once in a while, perhaps restoring after a week or a number of games won.

I just feel so unfairly treated that I've been unnecessarily and harshly punished, without being warned before I tried my hardest to reconnect and win. I don't think I've honestly felt so let down since nineteen ninety-eight when the Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.
