Toxicity vs Shit Talk
Post Body

So I've been seeing the topic of toxicity in League come up a lot today since Riot Lyte announced his leaving of Riot Games, so here's my 2 cents on the matter.

The League community is split into two camps:

1 of them is classified as the white knights or cry babies, whose stance is that flaming is wrong, muted or not. These are the people who love Riot Lyte and are sad to see him go

2 is comprised of those who are considered a part of the problem. They state that you should just mute them and move on, its a video game and we don't need to baby it down. Well, now that the line has been drawn, when did shit talking and being an asshole to other player become the same thing? If I say in game that someone is bad and I'm going to style on them, is that flaming or shit talking?

If I go Dunkey's route and call someone a "worthless braindead scumfuck bastard pile of trash mental dickface that should be gunned down in the street like the degenerate you are", should I be punished for that? Or is that just shit talking in fun and competitive nature. Neither camp in this topic knows the line between shit talk and flame. Muting someone who says what Dunkey says doesn't stop them from going around and saying it to other players. You report them in hopes they get chat restricted or banned. Just because its over the internet doesn't mean you should flame them without a second thought. But then someone saying that they dumpstered you in lane, whether true or not does not deserve a report. Toxicity in league is something of a joke to us, hence why Tyler1 got famous off of it. One camp thinks anything negative needs to be banned, while the other welcomes any and all forms of negativity because:

"you can just mute them"

"its a game"

"this is the internet"

Well you're also a part of the problem with that mindset.

Tl;Dr- The League of Legends Community needs to learn the difference between Shit Talk in competitive fun, and being a toxic asshole who should be banned.
