Why am I losing LP due to AFKers?

Why should the other 4 people on the team be forced to lose LP due to some idiot's inability to finish off the game? I can't tell you how many games I've lost because it was 4 v 5 at some point in the game.
The afker should be penalized for double the LP loss or the team should have half the penalty. Thoughts?
