I lost more IP than I was supposed to when buying a champion

So, I was planning on buying Nasus and Malphite since I had 2700 IP ( not more than 3K IP though) and when I got Nasus I clicked purchase and ok in a rush then looked at my IP count and all I got was 133 IP.
Is this a known bug? I can't buy Malphite now, which is a shame as I have been saving IP for a fair amount of matches and now I just lost it...
